Mali

Mali a Western African country is making inroads to improve standards of children’s education. People of Mali, the government, UNESCO, UNICEF and private NGOs are making significant efforts to bring kids back to school.  Still, there is a lot to be done and various challenges are ahead. More than two million children are missing school in Mali.  Girls are more vulnerable than boys, only 73.8% of the girls are enrolled in primary school compared to 85.8% of the boys. When girls reach secondary school, their enrollment reduces to 15% compared to 21% of the boys.

Other than finding education support from international bodies like the UN, stromme foundation is a non-profit organization that designed a “Speed School Program” to create interest among the out-of-school children between the ages of 8-12. After nine months of learning, students can improve reading and writing skills that can help them to enter 3, 4, 5 grades in the government primary school. (IPA Foundation)
