Tanzania

Tanzania is the highest-ranked country in Africa where children are unable to set foot in school. The stat shows how far this country is in terms of primary education compared to other African nations. According to Statista, till 2019, 1.4 million children were missing school and this figure was highest in 2018 where the total number of OOSC reached the peak of 1.9 million. Again there is the difference in participation in school between rural and urban areas. OOSC rate in rural areas is 22% compared to urban areas where the rate is comparatively low, 10%.

Mara Alliance with the contribution of thirteen NGOs and support of the government of Tanzania. This alliance aims to target 20,000 OOSC in the Mara region and bring them back to the education system. The most recent progress is the partnership with Education Above All Foundation and Graca Machel Trust has been able to enroll 23,746 children in primary education. Also, primary education has become mandatory for children from 7 to 15 years.
